Make-A-Wish is an amazing organization with some awesome volunteers!
Here's a little background on how our process went.
First the social worker at Kolton's hospital where he's getting his oncology treatment submitted a request for us back in about March 2016.
We then were sent paperwork to fill out. And he got his Make-A-Wish token.
On June 29th we had an in office meet/greet with some of the volunteers where Kolton told them his WISH, to go to Disney World!
Authorization paperwork was sent to his doctor to fill out.
He got the approval letter saying his wish was being fulfilled and we were offered a time in July 2016 but since I have lived in Florida and know that Kolton has trouble with regulating his body temperature I knew he would be miserable that time of year. We requested to be able to go over Christmas break.
We requested that the 2 Grandmothers be allowed to stay with us as Give Kids the World and it was approved (more paperwork and photo id's for background checks). They could stay with us but had to supply their own travel and park tickets.
Kolton was nominated to go to the Believe in Tomorrow Hands on Racing Event at Bandimere July 23rd 2016 and we got to meet some great people in the Make-A-Wish tent and were able to sit, relax and get out of the heat.
We were given our flight information in November for the dates January 2nd-January 8th.
On December 2nd Kolton got to participate in the Wish Store, where he got to pick gifts for his friends or family with a Volunteer. Meet Santa, make some crafts and snack on some yummy treats. He is granted this opportunity as a wish kid 2 years in a row, he's really looking forward to going in 2017 and hopes to see his Granter next year since she volunteers for this event!
On December 21st, 2016 we met with Dawn (Kolton's wish granter) at the California Pizza Kitchen on the day that Kolton was the Wish Wednesday kid. Our meal was free and was absolutely amazing food! She then gave us all the information we needed for the trip, our Wish buttons to wear, Kolton's Make-A-Wish Colorado shirt, our airplane tickets, information on the LIMO ride to and from the airport, our rental van info, info on how to check into Give Kids the World and a travel expense check to help cover food, gifts, tolls etc.
All through this process from start to finish Kolton has received monthly cards from his Granter and some really cute gifts (A large Mickey Mouse, a Autograph book for the trip and a Disney Guide book for kids).
The actual TRIP, To be continued....
